Founded in 2021 by retired Police Chief Max Bosel, Code 4 Finances provides one-on-one coaching, group workshops, and agency or conference presentations that provides information for first responders and frontline supporters to maximize financial wellness.
Many in public safety recognize “Code 4” as a radio code meaning “no further assistance needed.” This reflects Max Bosel's mission to pay it forward and empower those who serve to have the knowledge and self-efficacy to financially thrive.
Code 4 Finances delivers personal finance education that uses terminology and metaphors that resonates with those who have served on the frontlines. Through a step-by-step "Missing Money Investigation," an "investigative checklist" provides open source information and resources that builds money management skills and personal finance knowledge that empowers you to make informed financial decisions with confidence.
Code 4 Finances does not sell financial products, manage assets, promote for-profit services, or monetize your information. All content is for educational purposes only and does not constitute investment advice. Visitors are encouraged to conduct their own due diligence when making financial decisions.
I’m a CalPERS retiree with 40 years of public safety experience. Throughout my journey, I’ve spent hard-earned money on financial planning services that pushed insurance, annuities, and get-rich-quick schemes, only to find they were costly distractions that lacked a holistic approach to financial thrive.
These experiences ignited a passion to learn how to guide my own family from debt to financial stability. Now, I’m dedicated to share those insights so others can have the confidence to navigate their own financial journeys from early career strategies to retirement.
For those curious about my credentials, I was a 2023 Stanford Univeristy Distinguished Careers Institute Fellow, and hold a BA in Management from St. Mary’s College of California, an MPA from Notre Dame de Namur University, a Graduate Certificate in Financial Life Planning from Golden Gate University, a Professional Certificate in Personal Finance from Indiana University’s Kelley School of Business, and have completed personal finance coursework through the Association for Financial Counseling and Planning Education
My goal is to provide practical, actionable resources that empower you to have the confidence and motivation to achieve your financial life goals, and be “Code 4” in your pursuit of financial wellness.
